If youre a student or on a small budget, theres the el cheapo way to furnish a house, by shopping garage sales, thrift stores and freecycle groups on the web where people give away furniture they dont want to others who can use it. You can actually get really good stuff this way. Some of the used furniture is in perfectly good condition and no one would ever be able to tell you bought it at a thrift store or got it used from someone else.

If youve got a little bit of money to spend, but not a lot, then youve got your lower end furniture stores. There are plenty to choose from. Or maybe you just want to be sure youve got a great bed, but the bookcases can come from a garage sale. You know what your needs and priorities are. Theres no harm in checking the cheap places first and spending more only if you have to in order to get what you want.

Of course, if you can afford it, you hire an interior designer who consults with you, learns about your tastes and then shops for you and helps you spend the money it takes to get everything brand new and get what you really want.
