New Orleans Hotels

Author: Alison Cole

New Orleans is one of the major port cities in the United States, located along the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana, south of Lake Ponthchartrain. Its location alone may be one of the reasons why so many people visit New Orleans. Named after the historical Duke of Orleans, it is also one of the most historic cities in the United States. Its rich culture and history, along with all the offerings that cater to people from all walks of life and all age ranges, are primary reasons for its popularity.

Because of the recent tragedy caused by Hurricane Katrina, which left New Orleans severely damaged, many tourists wonder if the once historical and exciting place will ever be able to accommodate visitors the way it used to. State officials and all those who care deeply about New Orleans have exerted insurmountable effort in preserving the city's tourist attractions and historical sites, hotels included.

Just as in any place, New Orleans hotels are rated depending on the services and amenities that they offer. One to five stars may be awarded per hotel to signify the facilities and the services that they offer. Being a popular tourist destination, New Orleans hotels are found all around the place, ranging from the best to fairly good. New Orleans hotels also cater to the different tastes and budgets of the tourists. Guests are sure to find the best hotel so suit their tastes, from the most discriminating to the most basic. Furthermore, New Orleans hotels also accept online reservations, making it even more convenient for prospective guests.

Despite the damages brought about by Hurricane Katrina, a lot of New Orleans hotels have opened their doors to guests, yet there are some who are still "cleaning up" after the tragedy. At present, New Orleans hotels have employed "open" status for those that are currently operating but do not guarantee availability of all services, full staff, or amenities and a "closed" status for hotels that are still in the process of refurbishing their establishment. Also, a "limited" status is given to hotels that are either under long-term contracts and are mostly occupied by those involved in recovery efforts or by displaced residents.
